Terms of Use

1. Agreeing to these terms

By downloading, installing or using Papen, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Papen. If you use Papen on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation.

2. Who can use Papen

You must be at least 13 years old to use Papen. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed these terms and agrees to them on your behalf. You also confirm that you are not barred from using the app under the laws of your country.

3. What Papen does

Papen helps you draw by hand. Depending on your plan, the app lets you:

• browse a library of sketch templates;
• generate a sketch from a text description ("AI sketch");
• turn a photo from your device into a line drawing ("photo to sketch"), processed entirely on your phone;
• place a sketch on your paper through the camera (AR mode and camera mode), or trace it directly through a sheet laid over the screen;
• photograph your finished drawing into an album, earn level badges and set practice reminders.

We may add, change or remove features at any time. Some features need device permissions such as camera or photo access. You can manage these in your device settings, but the related features will not work without them.

4. No account needed

Papen does not require an account. Your album, level progress and settings are stored on your device only. That means they are not backed up by us: if you delete the app, reset your phone or switch devices, your drawings and progress are removed with it. Papen Pro purchases can be restored on a new device through the App Store or Google Play using the "Restore purchases" option.

5. Your photos, prompts and drawings

You own your content. Photos you import, text prompts you write, and photographs of your finished drawings remain yours. We do not claim ownership of them.

What we process. Photo to sketch runs on your device, so your photos are never uploaded to us. Text prompts for AI sketch are sent through our servers to our AI provider only to produce your sketch, and are deleted as soon as the result is returned. To the extent needed for this, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to transmit and process your prompts for that purpose only.

Your responsibility. You confirm that you have the right to use any photo you import, including photos of other people, and that your content does not break the law or these terms.

No AI training. We do not use your photos, prompts or drawings to train AI models.

6. AI-generated sketches

Sketches produced from a text description are generated automatically by a third-party AI service (DeepInfra). Because of how these systems work:

• results can be inaccurate, unexpected, or similar to results other people receive;
• we cannot promise that a generated sketch is unique or free of third-party rights;
• generated sketches are provided for your personal, non-commercial use, as described in section 7.

You must not request sketches that are illegal, sexual content involving minors, hateful, harassing, or that infringe someone else's rights, and you must not try to generate images of real people in a misleading or harmful way. We may filter prompts and refuse or remove generations that break these rules, and we may limit the number of generations per user to keep the service fair.

7. Templates and personal use

The templates, illustrations, badges and other materials inside Papen, and the sketches generated for you by AI sketch, are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable licence to use them within the app to practise and make your own hand drawings for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may keep and share the drawings you make by hand for personal enjoyment, for example on social media or as a gift. You may not sell drawings made from our templates or AI sketches, use them in products or advertising, or extract, redistribute, resell or sub-license the templates or generated sketches themselves.

8. Acceptable use

When you use Papen you agree not to:

• copy, modify, reverse engineer or decompile the app, except where the law allows it;
• bypass or interfere with subscriptions, watermarks, security features or usage limits;
• use automated tools to access the service or to bulk-generate sketches;
• upload malicious code or content that is unlawful, infringing or harmful;
• use Papen in a way that could damage, overload or impair our systems or interfere with others' use.

9. Papen Pro and payments

Free and Pro. A set of templates and all drawing modes are free. Papen Pro adds the full template library, AI sketch generation, photo to sketch, and removes the watermark from your exports.

Plans. Pro is available as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the App Store or Google Play before you buy and may vary by country and currency.

Billing. Purchases are made through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and their terms and payment methods apply. We never see your card details.

Free trial. New subscribers may be offered a 3-day free trial. When the trial ends it converts to the paid subscription you chose unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. One trial per person.

Auto-renewal. Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. The lifetime purchase does not renew.

Refunds. Refunds are handled by the store you purchased from, under its policies. Where the law gives you additional rights, those still apply.

Price changes. If we change a price, we will tell you in advance through the store or the app, and you can cancel before the new price applies.

10. Our intellectual property

Papen, the Papen name and logo, the app design, software and all content we provide are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. Apart from the licences expressly given in these terms, we keep all rights. Feedback you send us may be used freely by us without any obligation to you.

11. Drawing safely

Papen involves placing paper on or near your phone and, in camera modes, mounting the phone above your desk. You are responsible for using your device sensibly: use a stand or clamp that holds the phone securely, place only paper between your pencil and the screen, press lightly, and keep the device away from liquids and heat. We are not responsible for damage to your device, screen, furniture or other property arising from how you set up or use it.

12. Disclaimers

Papen is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, including about merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy of generated sketches, or uninterrupted, error-free operation. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, so some may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our suppliers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of Papen. Our total liability for any claim relating to Papen is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and ₹5,000 (Indian rupees five thousand). Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

14. Ending the agreement

You can stop using Papen at any time by deleting the app and cancelling any subscription in your store settings. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we must for legal reasons, or if we discontinue the service, in which case we will try to give reasonable notice. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as content licences, disclaimers and limitation of liability) continue after termination.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes we will notify you in the app or by other reasonable means at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use Papen after that date means you accept the updated terms.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Surat, Gujarat, India, unless mandatory consumer law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring it elsewhere. Before going to court, please contact us so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
