Privacy Policy

The short version

• No account, no profile. Papen works without signing in. We don't know your name or email unless you write to us.
• Your photos stay on your phone. Photo to sketch runs entirely on your device. Your album is stored on your device only.
• The camera is not recording you. AR and camera modes process the live view on your device to place the sketch. Nothing is saved unless you tap capture.
• AI sketch prompts are sent once and deleted. The text you type goes to our AI provider to draw your sketch and is deleted as soon as the result comes back.
• We don't sell your data. We share it only with the service providers we need to run Papen, listed below.

1. Who we are

Papen is operated by RETRYTECH LLP, Surat, Gujarat, India ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal data described here. You can reach us at [email protected].

2. What we collect

Information you give us

• Text prompts you type to generate an AI sketch.
• Support messages and anything else you choose to send us, including your email address if you write to us.

Photos you import for photo to sketch, and photographs you take of finished drawings for your album, are processed and stored on your device only. They are not sent to us.

Information collected automatically

• Device and app data: device model, operating system version, app version, language, time zone, crash reports and performance logs, collected through Firebase Crashlytics.
• Usage data: which features you use (for example, which drawing mode, how many drawings you complete, level badges earned), collected through Firebase Analytics so we can understand what works and improve the app.
• Purchase data: your Papen Pro status, plan and transaction identifiers from the App Store or Google Play, managed through RevenueCat. We never receive your card number.
• Install attribution: a random app-instance identifier and, only if you allow tracking on your device, your advertising identifier, used by AppsFlyer, the Meta SDK and Branch to understand which campaigns or links led you to install Papen. Papen does not show ads.

Information from others

Apple and Google send us confirmation of purchases and restore requests. Attribution partners send us campaign information about how the app was installed.

3. How we use it

• To provide the features you use: generating sketches from prompts, placing sketches on paper, saving your album, tracking levels and sending the reminders you set.
• To manage your Papen Pro purchase and restore it on a new device.
• To fix bugs, keep the app secure and understand which features are used, so we can improve them.
• To measure the performance of our marketing campaigns and links.
• To answer your messages.
• To comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Use.

Where the GDPR, the UK GDPR or similar laws apply, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in running, securing, improving and promoting Papen, your consent (for optional permissions and tracking), and compliance with legal obligations. In India we process personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

4. Camera and photo access

Camera. AR mode and camera mode use the live camera feed to show the sketch on your paper. The feed is processed on your device and is not sent to us or stored, except for the single frame captured when you choose to save a finished drawing to your album.

Photos. Photo to sketch reads only the photo you pick and converts it on your device. Album captures are stored on your device only; if you delete the app they are deleted with it. You can revoke camera and photo access at any time in your device settings; the related features will stop working until you grant it again.

5. AI sketch and photo to sketch

AI sketch. When you generate a sketch from a description, your text prompt is sent through our servers (hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States) to DeepInfra, a third-party AI image service, which produces the drawing. Prompts are used only to produce your result and are deleted immediately after the result is returned. We do not use your prompts or sketches to train AI models, and DeepInfra processes them as our service provider under its terms.

Photo to sketch. This feature does not use AI services. The conversion happens entirely on your phone, and the photo never leaves your device.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with:

• Service providers that process data for us under contract: DigitalOcean (hosting), DeepInfra (AI sketch generation), Google Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), RevenueCat (subscription management), and AppsFlyer, Meta and Branch (install attribution).
• Apple and Google, for purchases and app distribution, under their own privacy policies.
• Authorities where the law requires it, or to protect our rights, users or the public.
• A buyer or successor if Papen is sold or merged, in which case this policy continues to apply.

7. How long we keep it

• Album drawings, level progress and settings: on your device only, until you delete them or the app.
• AI sketch prompts: deleted immediately after the result is delivered.
• Usage, attribution and crash data: up to 14 months, then deleted or aggregated.
• Purchase records: as long as required by tax and accounting law.
• Support emails: up to 2 years after the conversation ends.

8. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. Because Papen has no accounts, most of your data lives on your device and is deleted when you delete the app. For anything we hold (for example analytics or support emails), email [email protected] and we will respond within the time the law requires.

You can also: turn off reminders and notifications in the app or device settings; revoke camera and photo permissions; decline tracking when your device asks (this stops the advertising identifier being shared with attribution partners); reset your advertising identifier in your device settings; and cancel Papen Pro in your App Store or Google Play settings.

California residents: we do not sell personal information. Sharing your advertising identifier with attribution partners may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA; you can opt out by declining tracking on your device or by emailing us.

9. Children

Papen is for people aged 13 and over and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and reputable infrastructure providers to protect the limited data we handle. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you and the relevant authorities of a breach where the law requires it.

11. International transfers

Our servers and providers process data in the United States and other countries outside India, the EU and the UK. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Papen changes. For material changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows the current version.
