Which drawing mode should I use?
Trace on the screen is the fastest: lay thin paper over the phone, turn the brightness up and trace the lit lines. Draw with AR and Draw with camera need a stand or clamp that holds the phone above the sheet, and work with any paper size.
The sketch won't lock to my paper in AR
Use a plain sheet on a well-lit, non-reflective surface, keep the whole page in view for a second while it locks, then tap the lock icon. Very dark rooms and glossy desks make tracking harder.
Will tracing on the screen scratch it?
The paper sits between your pencil and the glass, so nothing touches the display. Press lightly and use a soft pencil.

What does Pro include?
The full template library, AI sketch generation, photo to sketch, and no watermark. Plans are monthly, yearly, or a one-time lifetime purchase, with a 3-day free trial on subscriptions.
Restore a purchase on a new phone
Open Papen, go to Settings → Restore purchases while signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account you bought with.
Cancel or get a refund
Subscriptions are managed by the store, not by us. Cancel in App Store subscriptions or Google Play subscriptions at least 24 hours before renewal. Refunds are requested through Apple or Google.
Camera, photos & privacy
Papen says it needs camera access
AR and camera modes use the live camera to place the sketch on your paper. Enable it in iOS: Settings → Papen → Camera or Android: Settings → Apps → Papen → Permissions. The feed is processed on your phone and never uploaded.
Where are my drawings stored?
On your device only. Papen has no accounts and no cloud album, so deleting the app deletes your album and progress with it. Save anything you want to keep to your photo library first.
Delete my data
Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone. For anything we hold, such as support emails or analytics tied to your device, email us and we will delete it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
AI sketch & photo to sketch
My AI sketch looks wrong or didn't generate
Try a shorter, more concrete description ("a sleeping cat on a windowsill, line art"), then pick a line style. Generation needs an internet connection and takes about six seconds; if it fails, check your connection and try again.
Photo to sketch is blank or too faint
Use a well-lit photo with a clear subject and switch the line weight from Fine to Medium or Bold. The conversion runs on your phone, so it also works offline.
Can I sell what I draw?
Templates and AI sketches are for personal, non-commercial use. You can keep and share your hand drawings, but not sell them or the source sketches. Full details are in the Terms of Use.
Something's broken
The app crashes or freezes
Update to the latest version from the store, then restart your phone. If it keeps happening, email us with your phone model, OS version and what you were doing. Crash reports reach us automatically, but your description helps us find it faster.
Reminders don't arrive
Check that notifications for Papen are allowed in your device settings and that Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't silencing them at the time you chose.
